Cover for water carts on dust suppression, civil, mining and rural work.
A part-full water tank moves. Surge on a corner or a slope is why water carts roll over more readily than their weight suggests, and haul roads and unsealed site tracks make that worse. Add a pump, spray bars and a cannon that can be damaged independently of the truck, and the asset is worth more than the chassis it looks like.
A water cart is a truck fitted with a water tank, pump, spray bars and often a rear cannon. They are used for dust suppression on mine haul roads, quarries and civil earthworks, compaction water on roadworks, potable and stock water delivery in rural areas, and firefighting support. Configurations run from small rigid units to large off-road mine carts and semi-trailer water tankers.
Damage to the chassis, tank, pump, spray bars and cannon, including rollover damage sustained on site.
Third-party injury or property damage while operating on a construction, quarry, mine or road site.
Lost income while the unit is off the road or off hire, generally with a waiting period and a daily limit.
A cart running half full slows for a bend on a mine haul road and surge from the tank pushes it onto its side. Damage covers the chassis, tank, pump and spray gear, and the baffle arrangements and site conditions are looked at closely afterwards.
A rear cannon or spray bar catches a windrow, bollard or stockpile on an earthworks site and is torn away. The truck is still drivable but cannot do its job, which puts the focus on downtime and parts rather than the repair itself.
A cart sinks in wet fill on an earthworks pad and is dragged out with a dozer, damaging chassis rails and tank mounts in the process. Whether the recovery cost itself is covered, and to what limit, is a question that comes up often.
It can be, but mine and quarry work commonly brings site-specific conditions, higher liability limits and sometimes a restriction on where the unit may operate. Some insurers rate haul road and off-road running quite differently to sealed road work. Declare the actual sites so the terms match the job.
Rollover damage is generally contemplated as accidental damage, subject to the policy terms and to what has been declared about the work. Insurers commonly ask about tank baffles, operator training and site inductions, because surge is the known driver in this class. Those answers can influence both terms and excess.
Dry hire changes the picture considerably, because someone else is operating your asset. Who insures the unit, who carries the liability and what the hire agreement says about damage should all line up before the machine leaves your yard. Insurers usually want dry hire declared rather than discovered.
It depends on tank capacity and whether baffles are fitted, whether the work is mine site, civil, roadworks or rural delivery, how much running is on unsealed and haul roads, and whether the unit is ever dry hired. Rollover claims history has a strong influence. There is no useful figure without those specifics.
