Cover for pantech and box-bodied rigids doing delivery and removal work.
Box trucks handle the last leg of most urban freight tasks, moving furniture, parcels, appliances and general pallets between depots and doors. The enclosed body protects the load from weather but not from theft, and the height of that body is what turns a low bridge, a shopping centre awning or a carpark entry into a written-off roof.
A box truck, usually called a pantech in Australia, is a rigid truck with a fully enclosed cargo body, commonly with a roller or barn doors and frequently a hydraulic tailgate loader. Bodies are built on Isuzu, Hino, Fuso and Iveco chassis from the 4.5 tonne car-licence class up to heavy rigids used in furniture removal and general freight.

Hydraulic tail lifts are a common damage and injury point and are generally scheduled or specifically noted on the policy.
Customer freight inside the body is typically addressed by goods-in-transit or carriers cover rather than the motor section.
A driver takes a tall pantech into a shopping centre dock and shears the front of the roof on the clearance bar. The damage usually runs across the body, the bar and often the structure above it, which brings a property owner's claim in as well.
A truck is left loaded overnight on a suburban street and the roller door is forced, with appliances taken. The vehicle itself is undamaged, so the loss sits with goods in transit or carriers cover rather than the motor section.
A customer steps onto the tail lift while a fridge is being lowered and is injured when the load shifts. Liability arising during loading and unloading is commonly treated differently from liability arising out of driving the vehicle.
In Australia a standard car licence generally covers vehicles up to 4.5 tonnes GVM, which is why 4.5 tonne pantechs are so common in hire fleets. Anything above that typically needs a light, medium or heavy rigid licence. Insurers also apply their own driver conditions, so check both the licensing rules and the policy.
Generally not. Motor cover typically responds to the vehicle and its body, while customer goods in the back are usually addressed by goods in transit or carriers cover. Removalists and general freight operators commonly arrange both, with the limit set against the highest value load carried.
It depends on how the cover is written. Carriers cover is aimed at goods belonging to others in your care, while your own stock in transit is usually addressed by an own goods extension or a business pack. The two are worded differently, so it is worth being clear about whose goods are on the truck.
It depends rather than being a fixed figure. The usual drivers are GVM and overall body height, whether you run metropolitan delivery or interstate linehaul, whether a tailgate loader is fitted, the number and experience of drivers, and where the truck is parked overnight and whether it is left loaded.
