Cover for mobile jaw, cone and impact crushers and screening plant.
A crusher is a high-value machine built to break rock, so ordinary damage is not the concern. Uncrushable material entering the chamber, a length of steel, a ground engaging tooth or a drill rod, is what wrecks them, and conveyor and engine bay fires are the other repeat cause of loss. Downtime stops the whole production train, not just one machine.
Mobile crushing plant includes jaw, cone and impact crushers, usually tracked, working alongside screens, stackers and feeders in quarrying, recycling and civil work. Metso, Sandvik, Terex Finlay, Powerscreen, Keestrack and Australian-built Striker machines are commonly seen here. A working spread is often several linked machines, so a loss on one can idle the rest of the line.

Internal failure of the chamber, drives and hydraulics, which accidental damage sections often exclude.
Belt, engine bay and stockpile fires, a recurring cause of major crushing plant loss.
A ground engaging tooth comes through in recycled concrete feed and jams the jaw, damaging the toggle, the mainframe and the drive. The machine is out for weeks waiting on parts, and the screens and stackers behind it sit idle in the meantime.
A seized idler roller sets a conveyor belt alight and the fire runs into the engine bay and the stockpile beneath. Conveyor and engine bay fires are a recurring cause of major loss on crushing spreads, and greasing and inspection records tend to be looked at closely.
The eccentric bushing and main shaft on a cone crusher fail internally partway through a quarry campaign. This is generally a machinery breakdown loss rather than accidental damage, and whether it responds usually depends on whether that section was added.
It often can be scheduled on the same contractors plant policy, but crushing and screening is usually rated separately because the exposure is different, and some insurers restrict or decline it, particularly on recycled feed. Larger spreads sometimes need specialist markets. Listing every machine in the spread, including screens, stackers and feeders, is the starting point.
Tracked mobile crushers are generally treated as plant rather than registered road vehicles, and they are relocated by float. Oversize permits from the state road authority are commonly needed depending on dimensions and mass. The insurance question is then whether transit, loading and unloading of a high value machine is properly covered, since relocations are a real claim source.
It depends on the spread and the feed, and no figure is meaningful without underwriting. Plant value and the number of linked machines, the material crushed such as rock, concrete or asphalt, tramp metal risk in recycled feed, fire suppression and belt maintenance, site security and remoteness, and claims history are the main drivers. Adding breakdown and business interruption changes the picture again.
Each machine in the spread generally needs its own entry on the schedule with its own value, and stackers, feeders and conveyors are the items most often left off. Because the spread runs as a single production line, a loss on an unlisted machine can idle the covered ones. Reviewing the full spread at each renewal is the practical safeguard.
