Cover for truck-mounted and line concrete pumps.
Concrete pumping combines a high-value boom with a job that has to be finished once it starts. A blockage or boom failure mid-pour creates costs well beyond the machine.
Concrete pumps include truck-mounted boom pumps, trailer-mounted line pumps and placing booms, from makers such as Putzmeister, Schwing, Sany and Cifa. Boom lengths and pump capacities vary widely and are rated individually.
Damage to the pumping unit, boom sections and hydraulics.
Damage caused by line failures and blockages, which wordings treat specifically.
Damage to property from overspray, boom strikes and pour failures.
A boom is slewed into an overhead line while repositioning for a slab pour on a suburban block. The machine is damaged and the site is shut down, but the injury exposure is usually the far larger part of the claim.
A pad is set on recently backfilled ground and the outrigger sinks mid-pour, dropping the boom hard. Boom section repairs alone are a major loss and the machine can be out of service for months while parts are sourced.
A blockage builds pressure until a reducer lets go, spraying concrete across a completed facade and a neighbouring vehicle. The clean-up and rectification is a liability claim, and whether the pipeline damage itself is picked up depends on the wording.
Usually not on its own. Boom pumps are commonly insured as a specialist mobile plant item, often at a single combined machine value covering chassis, boom, hydraulics and hopper, with registration and road use handled alongside it. How your machine is classified affects both the premium and how a claim is assessed.
The product itself normally belongs to the supplier or the builder rather than to you. Your exposure is more typically the damage you cause with it, such as overspray, blowouts and clean-up, which is generally a liability question. It is worth confirming how those costs are dealt with.
Redoing your own work is generally treated differently from damage you cause to other property, and many wordings deal with workmanship on a restricted basis or not at all. Damage to surrounding structures and finishes is usually the part that responds. The distinction is set out in the policy terms.
It depends on the machine and the work rather than a fixed rate. The main drivers are boom reach and pump output, the age and replacement value of the unit, whether the work is residential, commercial or civil, operator certification and hours, and how often you work near overhead powerlines.
